Summit Properties USA won an auction on Friday to buy more than 5,000 apartments out of bankruptcy from the Pinnacle Group despite City Hall’s efforts to intervene.

The Union of Pinnacle Tenants protested Summit Properties USA’s effort to buy Pinnacle Group properties on Thursday. Both companies appear to have many reported housing violations.

Sales of office buildings jumped nearly 21 percent last year, and leasing activity is up, too. Companies are looking for more space as work-from-home policies peter out.

SL Green, which had one of its busiest years in 2024 in leasing volume, built a tenant lounge and outdoor space on top of One Madison Avenue in Manhattan to help lure tenants.
