A charismatic orator in the 1960s, he called for armed resistance to white oppression. As a Muslim cleric, he was convicted of murder in 2000 and died in detention.

Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin, then known as H. Rap Brown, in 1967. At the time, he was chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.

Top Democrats are demanding concessions on health care in exchange for their support on a bill to fund the government. Mr. Trump called the demands “unserious.”

The bill would require that infants born alive after an attempted abortion receive the same protection as any newborn baby, and threaten medical providers with prison time for failing to resuscitate them.

Senator Chuck Schumer and Democrats warned that the measure was the leading edge of a broader assault by Republicans on abortion rights.
