I Use These Milwaukee Tools Every Day, and They're up to 50% Off Ahead of Memorial Day

By: Becca Lewis

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.

A good set of cordless tools will give your DIY projects polish, save you time, and make your life easier. But quality tools can be expensive. I use Milwaukee 18-volt tools in my personal tool kit and I’ve used them for everything from fixing my bathroom sink to building a deck. The batteries last at least 10 years without needing to be replaced, and the tools are comfortable to grip for long periods of time. There are some good Memorial Day deals at Home Depot on the tools I swear by.

This Milwaukee six-tool bundle is 50% off right now

If you’re starting a cordless tool set from scratch, a bundle will save you money and set you up with all the basics you need. Because these sets usually come with batteries and chargers as well as tools, they’re a good choice to begin a cordless tool set.

The Milwaukee 18-volt, six-tool set is now $499, 50% off its regular price. The bundle comes with a drill, an impact driver, an oscillating multitool, a circular saw, an angle grinder, a work light, two four-amp-hour batteries, a charger, and a tool bag. These tools can be used for basic projects, like hanging shelves, and for more advanced projects like cutting and building your own shelves.

These Milwaukee cutting and shaping tool deals are worth exploring

Most DIY home improvement projects, from installing molding to repairing a deck will involve some cutting. Depending on what the scope of your project is, different types of cutting and shaping tools will be useful for different applications. There are a few good deals on cutting tools that will come in handy if you’re doing any building, patching, or rebuilding.

The 18-volt Milwaukee sawzall is $269, 51% off its usual price. This saw comes with a five-amp-hour battery, a charger, and a stacking case that’s compatible with the Milwaukee system. A sawzall is good for making rough cuts and trimming small to medium branches on trees and shrubs.

The 18-volt Milwaukee oscillating multitool is $119, 40% off its typical price. It comes with a two-amp-hour battery and a charger. This is the most versatile tool out there: It can be used to plunge cut, trim plaster and drywall, cut wood, PVC, metal, and foam, and can be adapted for sanding and buffing. I use my oscillating multitool on nearly every project I work on.

The Milwaukee 18-volt angle grinder is $299, 47% off its regular price. This tool comes with two six-amp-hour batteries and a charger. You can use an angle grinder for cutting metal, grinding welds, polishing metal, cutting off screw and nail tips that poke through, and for cleaning and buffing your surfaces. Some people use angle grinders for cutting tile and removing grout, but if you use yours for this, it’s important to make sure that the tile you’re cutting isn’t made from stone, that your material is wet, and that you wear proper safety gear like safety goggles and a respirator. The dust from masonry and tile can contain silica dust that's quite dangerous to inhale.

This Milwaukee drill and driver are both on sale

A drill and driver are the most basic tools in a cordless set. Both the Milwaukee 18-volt, ½-inch chuck cordless drill and the 18-volt cordless impact driver are $129, 35% off their usual price. These tools will allow you to drive screws and bolts and drill holes for projects like mounting a flat screen TV or swapping out hardware on your cabinets.

These Milwaukee bits and extras are on sale, too

Milwaukee makes a wide range of tools to fit their 18-volt batteries, and one of my favorite surprise tools is on sale right now. There’s also an excellent deal on a hole saw set from Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee 18-volt cordless inflator is $299, 45% off its typical price. This tool comes with two six-amp-hour batteries and a charger. It can be really handy to have in your emergency roadside kit to inflate a tire and you can also use it for rafts or other inflatables. The inflator tool has a pressure gauge, an auto-shut-off feature, and three-foot hose for easy reach.

The Milwaukee eight-piece hole saw kit is $29.97, 40% off its regular price. The set comes with four sizes of hole saw blades, three drill bits, an arbor, and case. Hole saws can be used for cutting larger sized holes for passing wiring through timber, installing some types of door latches and knobs, and for creating cable pass-throughs in desktops.

These DeWalt Tools Are Up to 54% Off During an Early Memorial Day Sale at Home Depot

By: Becca Lewis

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.

If you’re interested in expanding your DIY tool kit or building a new one, a good set of cordless tools is essential. The DeWalt cordless tools I use at work are durable and the batteries last hours on a single charge, even after years of use. Here are some deals on DeWalt tools at Home Depot in the run-up to Memorial Day that can save you some money on good quality cordless tools and batteries.

The DeWalt 6-tool set is on sale for $499

If you’re building a new DeWalt set, buying a tool bundle that comes with the basics (and batteries) can save you some money and set you up for DIY success. Since you’ll need a drill, driver, and cutting tools, a set comes with what you need to get started—and having a couple of batteries means you can have one on the charger while you’re working so you don’t have to wait for batteries to charge when it’s time to swap them.

The DeWalt 20-volt, 6-tool set comes with an impact driver, a drill, a circular saw, a sawzall, an angle grinder, an oscillating multitool, a 5-amp-hour battery, a 2-amp-hour battery, and a charger. The set is on sale for $499, 45% off its regular price. A drill and driver are the most basic DIY tools, used to drill holes and drive screws and bolts. A circular saw and sawzall will allow you to make cuts in wood and some other materials for making things like shelving or fencing. An angle grinder can be used for grinding off screw and nail tips that poke through, as well as for shaping and finishing surfaces. An oscillating multitool can be used to cut many materials and can be used as a sander and polisher, too.

A DeWalt drill and driver are each on sale for $99

The DeWalt 20-volt compact impact driver and the DeWalt 20-volt drill are both on sale for $99, 45% off their usual price. Each one comes with a 2-amp-hour, 20-volt battery and a charger so they’re ready to use out of the box. If you’re starting a cordless tool set for basic home maintenance, these are good tools to start with because they allow you to drive screws and drill holes for DIY projects like mounting a flat screen TV or swapping out drawer and cabinet hardware.

These trimming and finishing tools are on sale at Home Depot

The DeWalt 20-volt oscillating multitool set is on sale for $119, 54% off its typical price. The set includes the 20-volt oscillating multitool, two multimaterial blades, adapters for blades and sanding, 25 sanding sheets, a 2-amp-hour battery, a charger, and a tool bag. This tool can be used for plunge-cutting drywall and plaster, cutting metal, PVC, and wood, and you can use it to sand in tight corners. I use mine all the time for cutting PVC drain parts and finishing woodworking projects.

The DeWalt 20-volt random orbital sander is on sale for $99, 45% off its regular price. This is a tool-only deal, so you’ll need a DeWalt 20-volt battery and charger to use it. I got an orbital sander as an addition to a cordless set I already own so I could use it for woodworking, and it works really well. If you’re trying to get an even, smooth surface, using an orbital sander is ideal, and having a cordless one allows you to use the tool without the added friction and weight of dragging a cord around.

These DeWalt batteries and chargers are on sale at Home Depot

If you are expanding a DeWalt set or looking to upgrade so you can use multiple tools simultaneously, you might have noticed that cordless tool batteries can be expensive. They’re often the most expensive component for a cordless tool set, and since even the best batteries will wear out after about ten years of use, you’ll eventually need to buy extra batteries for your tool set.

The DeWalt 20-volt battery starter set is on sale for $172, 51% off its usual price. The set comes with a 6-amp-hour battery, a 4-amp-hour battery, and a charger. These larger capacity batteries are especially useful if you’re using your batteries farther from a power source or if you plan to run your tools continuously.

If you just need extra tool batteries, a 2-pack of DeWalt 20-volt, 3-amp-hour batteries is on sale for $99, 50% off its typical price. A 2-pack of DeWalt 20-volt, 5-amp-hour batteries is on sale for $149, 40% off its regular price.

These Craftsman Tools Are Up to 56% Off Right Now

By: Becca Lewis

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.

DIY home maintenance and repair projects can save you money because you don’t need to hire a pro for every repair or upgrade. From replacing a leaky faucet to adding a knob to your desk drawer, a good set of hand tools is essential for success. Craftsman tools has a good reputation for making quality, long-lasting tools, but if you’re interested in DIY, you might have noticed that these tools can be expensive. If you need to expand your tool set, or if you’re just starting out, these deals on Craftsman tools at Lowe’s will help keep your budget in check.

The best deals on tool sets at Lowe's

Craftsman is known for their mechanic’s tool sets. I remember as an aspiring tinkerer, playing with my dad’s Craftsman ratchet while assisting him with DIY home repairs, and the first set of tools I got as a teenager was a Craftsman wrench set. Here are some deals on Craftsman sets for DIYers of any skill set.

The Craftsman 242-piece mechanic’s tool set is on sale for $99, 56% off its regular price. This set comes with a ¼-inch, a ⅓-inch, and a ½-inch ratchet and includes SAE sockets ranging in size from 5/32-inches to ⅞-inches and metric sockets ranging from 4mm to 21mm. Also included is a set of combination wrenches, extension bits, a driver handle and bits for screws, and a verastack 3-drawer case.

The Craftsman 105-piece mechanic’s tool set is on sale for $69.98, 46% off its usual price. This set comes with a ¼-inch and a ⅜-inch ratchet, metric and SAE sockets, a spark plug socket, a set of allen wrenches, a driver, handles and bits for screws, and a case. This is a decent set for doing basic vehicle maintenance or performing tasks like changing the air filter for your home HVAC.

The Craftsman Overdrive 80-piece mechanic’s tool set is on sale for $79.98, 46% off its typical price. This set includes metric and SAE sized sockets, some socket extenders, a corner adapter for the ratchet, driver bits for screws, and a case. This set is specifically designed for vehicle maintenance and can be used on stubborn, rounded out hardware that’s difficult to remove with lighter weight tools.

The Craftsman 24-piece ratchet set is on sale for $19.98, 33% off its regular price. This set includes one ¼-inch ratchet handle, a set of metric sockets, a set of screw driver bits, an extension bit, and a case. Since many cars use mostly metric hardware, this is a good compact set that will travel well with a larger set, and it can be useful for small maintenance tasks on vehicles and bikes.

Best air compressor deal at Lowe's

A portable air compressor is a convenient tool to have for small woodworking projects and DIY builds. Its smaller size makes it less useful for big jobs like decking or roofing, but I use my Craftsman pancake compressor for applying trim and molding, and it’s a lot more convenient than lugging a bigger one around. An air compressor can also be used to run a paint sprayer or for air-powered cutting and bolting tools.

The Craftsman 6-gallon portable compressor is on sale for $99, 41% off its usual price. It comes with the fitting you need to connect pneumatic air hoses, but you’ll need to buy a hose to use air tools with it.

These Ryobi Tools Are up to 60% Off Right Now

By: Becca Lewis

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.

If you’re in the market for tools, you might have noticed that they can be expensive, especially if you don’t have batteries. Here are some deals from Home Depot on Ryobi cordless tools that can help you save some of your DIY budget and get your projects done quickly.

These Ryobi cutting tools are up to 53% off

The Ryobi 18-volt oscillating multitool is on sale for $79, 53% off its usual price. The tool includes a two-amp-hour battery, but no charger—so this is a good deal if you already have one. With the right blades and accessories, this tool can be used for cutting metal, wood, PVC, or drywall. You can also use it for sanding and buffing with the sanding attachment, and it’s really handy for getting into tight corners.

The Ryobi 18-volt, 7 ¼-inch circular saw is currently $139, 40% off its regular price. The tool comes with a high performance two-amp-hour battery but not a charger, so again, you’ll need an 18-volt Ryobi charger to use it. A circular saw can be used either for cross cutting boards or for making long, straight cuts, so it’s useful to have on hand, especially if you don’t have a table saw.

The Ryobi 18-volt 5 ½- inch circular saw is now $89, 50% off its regular price. It comes with a high performance, two-amp-hour battery. You can use this saw for cross cutting or making longer cuts, but the smaller blade does make it a little more difficult to cut a straight line over a longer distance. A smaller, lighter-weight saw is great for making quick cuts, especially if you’re working somewhere that doesn’t have power for a corded chop saw.

This Ryobi sheet sander is 60% off

The Ryobi 18-volt ¼-sheet sander is on sale for $59, 60% off its typical price. It comes with a high performance, two-amp-hour battery, but not a charger, so you’ll need a Ryobi 18-volt charger to use it. This sander is a good tool for removing old paint or smoothing out a rough board, so it can be used for all kinds of DIY home improvement and woodworking projects.

By: Becca Lewis

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.

If you have some spring chores to tackle in your yard, a good set of cordless outdoor tools can save you time—but cordless outdoor tools can also be expensive. Cordless lawn and gardening tools use high-capacity batteries, which can cause a steep increase in price. Amazon has some Big Spring Deals on landscaping tools that can save you up to 62% off on the equipment you need to tackle your spring to-do list.

This 24-volt chainsaw is 35% off

If you need to trim a tree or clean up fallen branches, a chainsaw can speed up the process. Although most battery-operated chainsaws aren’t quite as powerful as traditional gas-powered ones, a good quality battery can give you enough power for most things you would use a chainsaw for in your yard. The Greenworks 24-volt, 10-inch chainsaw is on sale for $97.99, down from 149.99. The saw comes with a 24-volt, two-amp-hour battery and a charger as well.

These 40-volt tool deals are perfect for most yards

Whacking weeds is a big part of keeping your yard look manicured, especially in springtime. Getting a trimmer that lasts long enough to get some work done can be expensive, so a 40-volt, two-amp-hour battery is a good investment to avoid running back to the charger every few minutes.

The Greenworks 40-volt, 12-inch string trimmer and 390 CFM leaf blower combo is on sale for $124.99, down from 189.99. This combo comes with a 40-volt, two-amp-hour battery and a charger. It’s rated to work at maximum capacity for at least an hour and can be used on about a third of an acre per charge.

The Greenworks 40-volt, eight-inch cordless edger is on sale for $190.95, 36% off its regular price. The edger tool comes with a 40-volt, four-amp-hour battery that you’ll be able to use right out of the box. The edger is rated to tackle about one mile of edging and can run for at least an hour before needing a charge.

A spare Greenworks 40-volt, two-amp-hour battery is on sale for $49, 62% off its regular price. If you already have a Greenworks set of 40-volt tools, this battery is compatible with those sets. Having at least two batteries allows you to charge one battery while you’re using the other so you don’t need to wait for a fresh battery. This is a battery-only deal, so you’ll need a Greenworks 40-volt charger to use it.

If you have a larger yard, check out this 60-volt tool set

If you have a larger yard, it might take more than an hour to trim. A 60-volt battery will give you a little more power and run-time so you can get more done between battery swaps. The Greenworks 60-volt yard tool combo set is on sale for $209, 34% off its regular price. It comes with a 13-inch string trimmer, a 540 CFM leaf blower, a 60-volt, four-amp-hour battery, and a charger. The set can run for 90 minutes and the string trimmer can trim about two miles worth of weeds on a single charge.

Some of My Favorite Milwaukee Tools Come With a Free Battery Right Now

By: Becca Lewis

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.

One of the most expensive parts of a personal tool kit is the batteries, especially if you want to use multiple tools simultaneously without having to swap the battery each time you change tools. Moving seamlessly between drilling pilot holes and driving screws can save you time on your DIY projects, but the cost of extra batteries can add up. These deals from Home Depot are a good way to save more than 50% on a battery and tool combo if you want to expand your Milwaukee set.

Battery combo

If you use bigger Milwaukee 18-volt tools like a circular saw, or use a Milwaukee inverter in your emergency kit for temporary emergency power, a few extra six-amp-hour batteries are helpful to have around, but the higher capacity batteries can be expensive. The two-pack of 18-volt Milwaukee six-amp-hour batteries is on sale for $299, 32% off its regular price. When you open the link to the two-pack, you'll see a "free gift with purchase" menu to the right, and you can select a third six-amp-hour battery from this menu. Once you add the battery, the discount is applied in your cart for a total savings of 53% off.

Tool combos

I use my Milwaukee 18-volt random orbital sander daily when I’m working on furniture and other projects. Having a cordless sander is more convenient because you don’t have to drag the cord around when you’re working on delicate projects and you can bring it with you wherever you want to work, making it perfect for outdoor woodworking as well. The Milwaukee 18-volt random orbital sander is on sale for $229 and it comes with a free six-amp-hour 18-volt battery when you select it in the "free gift with purchase" menu, saving you about 46% on the bundle. On this bundle, as with the other two tool bundles, you’ll need an 18-volt Milwaukee charger to use the battery.

My Milwaukee oscillating multitool has saved many of my household projects because of its versatility. I used mine when I needed to replace the drain in my 115-year-old Craftsman’s bathroom sink to cut through the plaster and lathe, to cut some PVC components, to trim the drain pipe where it came out from the wall, to trim a patch I installed, and to sand over some places after I patched the wall. The 18-volt Milwaukee oscillating multitool is $249, and right now, it comes with a free 18-volt, six-amp-hour battery when you select it in the "free gift with purchase" menu, saving you around 44% on the set.

I use my 6 ½” Milwaukee circular saw frequently to make quick rip cuts or in places I can’t use a table saw. Battery technology has come a long way since I first started using a cordless circular saw and I had to change out my battery every 20 minutes or so. With larger capacity batteries, you can use your cordless circular saw for several hours before needing to replace the battery, depending on the thickness and density of the material you’re cutting. The Milwaukee 18-volt, 6 ½” cordless circular saw is $229, and it comes with a free six-amp-hour battery when you select it in the "free gift with purchase" menu, saving you about 46% on the combo.

I Personally Use These Milwaukee Tools, and They're 50% Off Right Now

By: Becca Lewis

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.

If you’re building a cordless tool set for the first time, or replacing an older set that’s worn out, a combo kit is a good way to save money on several tools as well as batteries and chargers. Because batteries can be an expensive component to a cordless tool set, getting a kit that includes them is a good way to keep your costs down. If you’re trying out a new battery platform, you can expand your set as your needs change by adding new tools that will work with your existing batteries.

Why the Milwaukee five-tool combo set is a good deal

The Milwaukee five-tool combo set is on sale at Home Depot for $299, 50% off its regular price, and it has some of the most useful tools they make.

Since a battery and charger set on its own can cost up to $200, depending on the battery capacity, getting five tools as well as two batteries with a charger is a big savings. Since the 18-volt Milwaukee batteries are compatible with all of their 18-volt tools, the set is versatile and can be added to without needing to replace the batteries. Since these tools are known for being durable, you can also save money on replacing worn out tools and batteries every few years. My set of 18-volt Milwaukee batteries have lasted at least 10 years, and some of them are going strong 15 years in.

What comes with the Milwaukee five-tool combo set

The Milwaukee five-tool combo set comes with a ½-inch chuck drill, a ¼-inch chuck impact driver, an oscillating multitool, a compact reciprocating saw, a work light, a three-amp-hour battery, a 1.5-amp-hour battery, a charger, and a tool bag.

The drill and impact driver are the foundation of a cordless tool set, allowing you to drill holes and drive screws and other hardware for DIY projects. These tools are the basics for a DIY tool set. The oscillating multitool can trim material from metal to PVC and can perform plunge cuts into plaster and drywall. You can also use it with a sanding attachment to get into tight spaces. I used my oscillating multitool when I needed to replace my bathroom sink, and I used one tool with multiple blades instead of three or four different tools for the job.

The work light might not seem like a crucial piece of the set, but if you’ve ever needed to turn off the breaker to an outlet you’re working on, or needed to see into a dark corner of your basement when you’re connecting a dryer vent, you’ll be glad you have a portable work light that you can aim anywhere you need.

Why I recommend Milwaukee tools

I use Milwaukee tools in my personal tool set, and as a professional woodworker, I often rely on my 18-volt set for building furniture and installing shelves. I’ve had the same battery set since I bought my tools and I’ve only had one battery wear out—and that was after a decade of use, both outside and in a shop in hot, wet, and muddy conditions.

Milwaukee has been making tools for over 100 years, and their line of cordless tools has been a trusted brand for contractors since the 1990s. Because their first cordless tools were made mainly for professional use, they developed a reputation for being long-lasting and durable. Now that their battery system and tools are more affordable, lots of DIYers use them in their home tool kits as well.

I've Used This Ridgid Tool Set for Years, and It's Over $500 Off Right Now

By: Becca Lewis

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.

If you need to start a cordless tool kit or replace a set that’s worn out or broken, this Ridgid 18-volt, eight-tool combo set has all the basics you need for home DIY and beginner woodworking projects. Because cordless tools can be expensive, getting a good deal on a set is a way to stretch your DIY budget. I’ve used this set for shop work building shelving and displays, and the tools are durable and the batteries hold a charge well after years of use. At 65% off, it’s a great deal for eight tools and

batteries.

Why I recommend Ridgid tools

Ridgid tools has been around for a century, and it makes tools with a reputation for durability and good battery life. The company is best known for inventing the pipe wrench in 1923, and since then, they have developed a line of over 30 cordless tools that can be used for anything from lawn care to carpentry. Ridgid is unique in the industry of cordless tools for offering a lifetime warrantee on their tools sold through Home Depot that includes the batteries. Once you own this set and register it with the company, you will have the battery set for as long as you want to use the tools.

I used the Ridgid tools that come in this bundle on the set of a haunted house over the course of several years and they held up, without the need for a warrantee replacement even with daily use for several hours of overtime a day. The impact driver and drill are well-balanced and comfortable to use and the new, slimmer batteries are lightweight, allowing smaller precision tools like the drywall cutout tool to be operated easily.

Why this Ridgid combo set is a good deal

The Ridgid 18-volt, eight-tool combo set is on sale at Home Depot right now for $283, 65% off its regular price. The set comes with a drill, an impact driver, a circular saw, a reciprocating saw, a random orbital sander, a work light, a mini shop vac, a blower, a 4-amp-hour battery, a 2-amp-hour battery, a charger, and a tool bag.

Because this set comes with a set of batteries covered by a lifetime warranty, you’ll save a lot on replacing batteries over time as well as in the short term by shopping the sale. In order to access the warranty on this set, you need to register the set with proof of purchase within 90 days of buying them, and they have to come from Home Depot to be eligible for the coverage. The warranty also covers all of the 18-volt tools that Ridgid makes, so if anything goes wrong, you can get a replacement or a repair at no cost.

A tool set that comes with a drill and driver is a good way to start, and this set also has saws and some accessories to build your home DIY kit. The mini shop vac is great for a home shop in a mixed use space, like a basement because you can clean up quickly using the same batteries you use for your driver and saw.

The Milwaukee Tools I Personally Use Are up to 50% Off Right Now

By: Becca Lewis

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.

Tools can be a serious investment—so if you're looking to up your DIY game in 2026, a tool bundle is often a good solution. Because they come with batteries and chargers, they’re a great way to get everything you need to use a new tool set right away, and they can be more economical than buying each tool individually. Milwaukee tool sets are often more than $1,000, but you can get a few of these bundles for under $700 right now at Home Depot.

Why I recommend Milwaukee tools

I’ve been using Milwaukee cordless tools for over a decade on a variety of professional and personal projects, including projects around the house as well as large scale decking installations. These tools tend to be reliable and the batteries routinely last more than ten years, even working on outdoor projects, exposed to rain and dirt. Durability is a big consideration when I buy tools; the longer they last, the more economical they are. Because all of the current tools are backwards-compatible with all of the 18-volt batteries I have, it's easy to add tools to my set as new ones come out that I want to try, and as my needs expand.

Milwaukee tool bundles on sale

The Milwaukee 18-volt, nine-tool combo kit is on sale for $649, 46% off its regular price. It comes with a drill, a ¼-inch impact driver, a ½-inch impact wrench, a 6 ½-inch circular saw, a one-hand reciprocating saw, an angle grinder, an oscillating multitool, a mini blower, a work light, two 5-amp-hour batteries, a charger, and tool bag. This is a good set for larger projects, and it has many of the tools included that I used for building a large outdoor deck. Two larger capacity batteries is a good place to start, although if you plan on using multiple saw simultaneously, you’ll need to add another battery or two to keep a fresh battery ready on the charger.

The Milwaukee 18-volt five-tool combo kit is on sale for $299, 50% off its regular price. This set includes a drill, a ¼-inch impact driver, a 6 ½-inch circular saw, a one-hand reciprocating saw, a work light, a five-amp-hour battery, a 1.5-amp-hour battery, a charger, and a tool bag. This set has everything you need to get started doing DIY projects, and it includes all the basic Milwaukee tools I use day-to-day for woodworking and smaller building projects like building shelves. This is a good starter set to build on, and it's very similar to the one I began with more than a decade ago.

The Milwaukee 12-volt sub-compact drill and driver set is on sale for $199, 50% off its regular price. This set includes a 12-volt drill, an impact driver, a powered ratchet, two batteries, a charger, and a tool bag. While 12-volt batteries are often underpowered for larger projects, these smaller tools can be quite useful for projects like furniture assembly, putting up shelves, or doing appliance repair, as you often don’t need more than an hour or so of battery life to accomplish many of these tasks with your tools, and the smaller size makes them easier to fit into tight spaces.

The Best Tool Gifts Under $100

By: Becca Lewis

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.

Giving the gift of tools for the holidays can be a great way to bring a smile to your favorite DIY enthusiast or home improvement weekend warrior, but quality tools can be expensive. However, you can still give a nice gift to someone who wants to do their own home maintenance or build their own shelves—you just have to know what to look for. Here are some of the best tools you can give for under $100, from someone who personally loves to wield a power drill.

Best cordless tools under $100

Cordless tools can be some of the most expensive for a home tool set because they need batteries and chargers in addition to the tool. Having batteries that work with multiple tools can be a big advantage because then you don’t necessarily need to have a different battery for each tool. Here are a few good deals on quality cordless tools that have battery platforms that work with hundreds of other tools and are durable as well.

  • The Ryobi 18-volt driver set is $55.94 at Home Depot right now. The drill comes with a 1.5-amp-hour battery, a charger, and a 30-piece bit set, so it’s a good gift from someone starting a DIY tool kit because it has everything you need to start using it right out of the box. The Ryobi 18-volt battery platform includes over 300 cordless tools, so beginning with this battery set allows you to expand your kit in many directions.

  • The Dremel 12-volt cordless multitool starter set is a good gift for a DIYer who is interested in metal smithing, wood carving, or even trimming a dog’s nails, and it’s $99 right now at Home Depot. The cordless feature makes a Dremel more portable, and easier to control because you don’t need to worry about dragging an extension cord around behind you. The starter set comes with a battery, a charger, and a small set of accessories, so it’s a good set as a gift because it’s ready to use right out of the box.

  • The Ryobi 18-volt cordless brad nailer is a good gift for someone who is interested in installing trim or making woodworking projects like a birdhouse, and you can get it for $99 right now at Home Depot. It has a depth control and a built-in LED light that makes it more convenient in my experience when you’re working in tight spaces. While battery operated nailers used to be a little underpowered, improvements in battery technology and engineering have made them more functional in the last few years. This is a good gift for someone who already has an 18-volt Ryobi battery set or if you plan to buy batteries separately because it doesn’t come with a battery or a charger.

Best tool sets under $100

Quality hand tools like wrenches and pliers are an essential part of a home DIY set, and you might not even realize how important they are until you’re partway through taking your kitchen sink apart and you realize you don’t have the right wrench. Hand tools are a good gift for a DIYer because in my experience, you can never have too many. Here are a few quality tool sets you can give your favorite DIY home improvement expert for under $100.

  • A set of Craftsman slip-joint pliers is a good gift for anyone who does vehicle maintenance, DIY appliance repair, or any DIY projects with mechanical parts, and you can get it on Amazon for $22.48 right now. I’ve used my slipjaw pliers on sink repair and also to fix wheels on rolling chairs. This set comes with one pair of 10-inch and one pair of eight-inch slip-jaw pliers with rubber handle grips for a more comfortable grip.

  • The Klein 9-piece screwdriver set is a good quality starter set of drivers and a good gift to give someone interested in any type of DIY, and it’s $66.99 right now on Amazon. Klein screwdrivers are known for their durability, and are a popular choice for construction trades because they’re made with good quality steel and durable components. This set comes with eight flathead and Phillips head drivers in a range of lengths and a magnetizer/demagnetizer tool to allow you to magnetize your screw tip to hold hardware, or demagnetize it for work around sensitive electronic parts.

  • The Craftsman 20-piece ratcheting wrench set is a good gift for anyone who works with mechanical parts, nut and bolts, auto-repair, or appliance repair. These wrenches are especially handy because they can fit in a much narrower place than a socket wrench would, so they can be indispensable for fitting into tight spaces. They’re $66.99 on Amazon right now, and the set includes ten SAE and ten metric wrenches in various sizes.

Best bits and accessories under $100

Bits, blades, and accessories for a tool set are sometimes the difference between being able to finish a project or not, but they can be more expensive than you might expect. If you’re shopping for someone with DIY dreams, bits and other accessories are almost always a useful choice because these things tend to be expendable, as they can wear out over time. I’ve never been sad to have extra bits in my tool kit. Here are a few of the best bits and accessories gifts under $100.

  • The Bosch 15-piece router bit set is a good gift for a woodworker who likes to shape their own trim with a router. These bits are good quality, and made by one of the most popular router manufacturers around. They can be used for edge-trimming as well as cutting a molding profile or adding a decorative edge to shelves or cabinet doors. You can get this set for $94.99 on Amazon, and it comes with a wrench for swapping out the adapters and a carrying case.

  • The Milwaukee 120-piece impact bit set is a good gift for anyone who uses a drill or impact driver for home repair or DIY projects, and it’s $29.88 at Home Depot right now. This set comes with a variety of driver bits as well as some drill bits and an extension bit holder. These bits will work with either an impact driver or a drill, so they’re versatile and interchangeable for convenient use. I like to use this type of bit because they tend to be more shatter resistant when you’re driving fasteners into tough material like the 110-year-old plaster walls in my house.

  • The Milwaukee 23-piece impact compatible drill bit set is a good gift for anyone who installs shelving, builds home woodworking projects, or wants to hang storage in their home. It comes with drill bits that are cross compatible with a drill or impact driver in a variety of sizes, and you can get it for $29.97 at Home Depot right now. These bits are stranger than your average drill bit to accommodate the extra force that an impact driver exerts, and I find that they tend to be durable for woodworking projects.

The Best Cordless Tools Already on Sale at Home Depot for Black Friday

By: Becca Lewis

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.

Black Friday deals used to be relegated to the day after Thanksgiving. These days, however, they start much earlier—so why not take advantage? If you’re shopping for gifts for your favorite DIY enthusiast, or you just want to take advantage of deals for your own tool set, now is a good time to start looking. I usually take the opportunity to expand my tool battery collection if there isn’t an exciting new cordless tool I haven’t tried yet around this time of year, and that’s how I have kept a rotating collection of batteries to power all of my carpentry and DIY adventures.

Best deals on cordless drills and drivers

A good-quality drill and driver are the foundation for any DIY home tool set because they allow you to drive screws, nuts, and bolts as well as drilling holes. I use my drill and driver set every day at work, and frequently on my own personal projects at home, and having one that’s reliable, comfortable to use, and has a good battery life is key to getting things done efficiently.

The Milwaukee 18-volt cordless drill set in on sale for $99, 50% off its regular price. It comes with a 2-amp-hour battery, a charger, and a tool bag, and it’s a good tool for building a new cordless kit or to replace an existing Milwaukee drill. Since batteries are often the most expensive part of a cordless tool set, a quality set that comes with a battery and charger for under $100 is a good deal.

The Milwaukee 18-volt cordless quarter-inch impact driver set is also on sale for $99, 50% off its typical price. This set comes with a 2-amp-hour battery, a charger, and a tool bag. This is a good companion to a Milwaukee drill, and a good addition to a tool set that uses 18-volt Milwaukee batteries—it can drive fasteners with more force than a regular drill, and can help you get through tougher materials like 2x4s more easily.

A Ryobi 18-volt cordless drill set with three batteries is on sale for $148.97, 44% off its usual price. This set is an excellent starter set because it comes with a 1.5-amp-hour battery, 1 2-amp-hour battery, and a 4-amp-hour battery as well as a charger. It’s helpful to start a cordless tool set with extra batteries so you can expand your tool kit as you develop your skills and interest without needing to buy new batteries as you go.

Best deals on cordless saws and cutting tools

Saws are my favorite part of my tool collection, and having the right one can make any DIY project that much simpler and more fun to work on. Cordless saws have improved as batteries have gotten smaller and lighter as well as developing a longer battery life, so they’re a practical addition to a DIY tool kit—in addition to being fun to use.

The Ryobi 18-volt cordless reciprocating saw set is on sale for $99, 65% off its regular price. A reciprocating saw can be used for making rough cuts and trimming trees and shrubs. This set comes with a reciprocating saw, a two-amp-hour battery, a 4-amp-hour battery, and a charger. This is a good tool for someone who already uses Ryobi 18-volt tools, or for someone who likes doing outdoor projects like trimming hedges.

The Milwaukee 18-volt reciprocating saw is on sale for $199, 68% off its usual price. This is a good tool to add to an 18-volt Milwaukee set, or to begin a yard care and landscaping set. It comes with the saw, two 5-amp-hour batteries, and a charger.

The Milwaukee 18-volt, 6 ½-inch cordless circular saw is on sale for $199, 62% off its regular price. This saw comes with two 5-amp-hour batteries and a charger. The larger capacity batteries allow you to use your saw for hours while always having a fresh battery on the charger.

The Ryobi 18-volt cordless 7 ¼-inch compound miter saw is on sale for $159, 52% off its regular price. This saw can cut compound angles for trim and woodworking projects without needing to be plugged into an outlet. It comes with a 4-amp-hour battery and charger, which makes it a good addition to a Ryobi cordless tool set, as it can make up to 900 cuts per charge on the battery. Although this saw says it can cut up to 900 times a charge, if you’re working with material thicker than about a quarter of an inch, you’ll want to get a second battery so you can swap them out—in my experience, it can draw more power cutting denser or thicker wood.

The Milwaukee 18-volt oscillating multitool set is on sale for $99, 50% off its regular price. It comes with a 1.5-amp-hour battery and a charger. This is the tool that saved my sanity when I was replacing the trap on the sink in my 115-year-old craftsman house. I used it to cut the old pipe, shape the pipe coming out from the wall, trim the new PVC to the correct length, trim out the damaged plaster around the leaking drain, trim out the lath to allow the new trap through, and then I even used it to sand the joints in the plaster repair I made. It’s the hardest-working tool in my home DIY set, and $99 is a great price for it.

Best deals on cordless tool combo sets

Cordless tool sets can be a good way to start a new tool set because they usually come with all the basics as well as a few interesting extras. I started my personal tool kit with an 18-volt Milwaukee set over a decade ago and I also use tools from a DeWalt set at work daily.

The Milwaukee 18-volt seven-tool combo set is on sale for $500, 50% off its regular price. It comes with a drill, an impact driver, a circular saw, a one-handed compact reciprocating saw, an oscillating multitoo, an angle-grinder, a work light, two 3-amp-hour batteries, a charger, and a tool bag. This is a comprehensive set that will allow you to tackle most home DIY projects and even some professional level ones as well.

The DeWalt three-tool combo set is on sale for $399, 33% off its regular price. This set comes with a drill, a driver, an oscillating multitool, two 6-amp-hour batteries, a charger, and a tool bag. This is a solid set for most home maintenance projects and the batteries will last a long time and stand up to abuse. I use this set at work, these tools are going strong after years of use.

These Are the Best Cordless Tool Gifts for DIYers

By: Becca Lewis

We may earn a commission from links on this page.

Giving the gift of tools can be tricky, because the person you’re buying for might have specific preferences and needs. Knowing the type of thing that a handy person likes to do—such as woodworking or car maintenance—can get you started, but you can also take a peep at the tools they already have. Accounting for what cordless battery system they already own and what brand of hand tools they use can help guide your choice when picking out a tool to gift—the key to choosing the right cordless tool for a DIY enthusiast is figuring out what battery system they already have. Once you know that, you can look for tools and batteries that will work with their existing tools and any new ones they add. Here are a few of the best cordless power tools to gift from the most popular battery systems.

Best drill and driver combo to gift

A drill and driver are the cornerstone of any cordless power tool set. DeWalt makes some of the most reliable tools on the market, and their drivers and drills are well known for being reliable and durable. The DeWalt drill and driver set I use every day in my professional shop is a great gift for a DIYer who wants to replace their drill and driver or to start a cordless tool kit, and you can get it for $149. The DeWalt 20-volt drill and driver set on Amazon comes with a drill, impact driver, two 2-amp-hour batteries, a charger, and a tool bag.

Best finishing tool to gift

For woodworking and DIY home projects, finishing your work is one of the most satisfying parts of the process. A good sander is key to everything from drywall repair to building furniture. The 18-volt Milwaukee orbital sander that I use in my personal tool kit for furniture making is a hard working tool that I use almost every day. Milwaukee tools have had a reputation for being durable since they made the first portable drills for the Ford assembly lines in 1924, so it’s considered a quality brand for DIY maintenance and woodworking, and you can gift it for $99 at Home Depot.

Best tool set for the money to gift

If you’re looking for a cordless tool set for a DIYer building their first kit, Ryobi is a good quality option for the money. In addition to being a more affordable option for cordless battery systems, Ryobi 18-volt batteries work with over 300 tools, allowing you to expand your tool set without needing new batteries. The Milwaukee 18-volt 6-tool combo kit includes a drill, impact driver, circular saw, reciprocating saw, a work light, an oscillating multitool, a 2-amp-hour battery, a 4-amp-hour battery, a charger, and a tool bag, and you can get the whole kit for $200.

Best cordless automotive tool to gift

If you’ve ever been stranded with a flat tire, or even gotten a puncture from driving over a nail in your own garage after a DIY project, you know that having a portable tire inflator can be a life saver. For a new driver, or for someone who needs a little extra safety built into their life, the 20-volt DeWalt portable tire inflator is a great gift for $169 at Ace Hardware. This tool works with a 20-volt DeWalt battery, so it’s a good addition to an existing kit, or along with a set of DeWalt batteries.

Best cordless landscaping tool to gift

If you have someone on your list who loves to trim and snip out in the yard, the Ryobi 18-volt oil-free pole saw is a good idea for a gift. This is a good tool for tree and shrub trimming, and it goes with the Ryobi 18-volt battery system, which includes lots of other cordless landscaping tools. Since this is a tool-only package, you’ll need an 18-volt Ryobi battery and charger to use it, so it’s a good gift for someone who already has Ryobi tools—and it’s a good deal at Home Depot for $99.

Best woodworking tool to gift

The best cordless router around is the Milwaukee 18-volt router. For a portable option that doesn’t require dragging a cord around behind you that can get snagged on things, this router is the best. This set comes with a router, two 6-amp-hour batteries, and a charger for $299 at Home Depot, but you’ll need bits for the router to use it. This is a great gift for someone who likes to do woodworking projects, as it allows you to trim and shape edges as well as cutting your own trim profiles.

Best metalworking tool to gift

The Milwaukee 18-volt portable band saw is a good gift for someone with a home shop metalworking set because it’s compact and powerful. The saw can accept material up to five inches thick and five inches deep, allowing metal cutting for a wide range of projects from fence poles to decorative cuts for shelving. This is a tool-only package for $399, but you can add a free six-amp-hour battery right now with the free with purchase deal from Home Depot.

The DeWalt 18-volt jig saw is $168, 30% off its regular price. This saw is ideal for creating custom shapes and making small, precise cuts. It comes with a starter multipurpose blade, but you’ll need a DeWalt 18-volt battery to use it.

Amazon Big Deal Days is over, but some deals are still active.

If you’re looking to build a cordless tool kit or add to one you already have, you’ve probably noticed how expensive tools can be. When you shop for new tools, the cost of batteries, bits, blades, and accessories can be high, not to mention hand tools. Looking out for deals on reliable brands that will hold up over time can save you money now as well as in the long-term when you consider the cost of replacing batteries and tools as they wear out. Here are some of the best Prime Day deals on tools.

Cordless drills and drivers

A cordless drill and driver set is the cornerstone of a home tool set. These tools allow you to do basic home DIY projects like putting up shelves or hanging a TV, and they will also be useful for more advanced projects like building furniture or repairing fencing. The Dewalt 20-volt Max Drill and driver set is $159, 39% off its regular price. This set comes with a drill, a driver, two 20-volt batteries, a charger, and a tool bag. This is the driver set that I use at work, and it stands up to a lot of abuse. The batteries can go for up to 10 years without needing to be replaced, even with daily use.

Best deal on a specialty set

This refurbished Makita 18-volt subcompact drill and driver set is now $164.99, 31% off its typical price. This set comes with a drill, impact driver, two 18-volt, 1.5-amp-hour batteries, a charger, and a tool bag. A sub-compact drill or driver weighs less than three pounds, making them idea for portability. These tools are also smaller than the average drill and driver so they’re good for fitting into tight spaces.

Best deal under $100

The 18-volt Ryobi cordless power drill is $45; the set comes with a drill, a 1.5-amp-hour battery, and a charger. This is a good set for a beginner; it will do everything you need for basic projects. The battery will hold a charge for about an hour and a half with moderate use.

Cordless power tools

Cordless power tools have gotten lighter and more advanced over the last couple of years, allowing you to use power saws for hours without swapping batteries, and to finish work without dragging an extension cord behind you. The Milwaukee 18-volt cordless random orbital sander is $92, 43% off its regular price. This is the sander I use in my personal tool kit, and it works just as well as the corded version without needing an outlet and an extension cord. It comes with a dust catcher attachment and a couple of sanding discs, but you’ll need an 18-volt Milwaukee battery to use it.

Best deal on a cordless saw

The DeWalt 18-volt jig saw is $149, 37% off its regular price. This saw is good for making custom shapes and for doing small, precise cuts. It comes with a starter multipurpose blade, but you’ll need a DeWalt 18-volt battery to use it.

Best deal on finishing tools

The DeWalt 18-volt cordless random orbital sander is on sale for $164, 34% off its regular price. This sander is a solid finishing tool for woodworking, and you can also use it for sanding down drywall repairs. It comes with a 2-amp-hour battery, a charger, and a tool bag, so it's a great tool for expanding your tool set or for getting started.

Best deal under $100

The Ryobi 18-volt three-inch cutoff tool is $99.99, 29% off its regular price. This is a saw designed for cutting metal, wood, or PVC, so it’s a versatile addition to your home DIY tool kit. It comes with a three-inch metal cut-off blade, but you’ll need an 18-volt Ryobi battery set to use it.

Hand tools

Hand tools can be an overlooked component of a home DIY tool kit, but they’re important for most home maintenance and DIY projects. Getting all the different tools and bits you need can be expensive, though. The Irwin 6 ½ inch coping saw is $8.99, 43% off its regular price. It can make precise cuts in wood for custom projects like installing trim or making dovetail joints.

Best deal on screwdrivers

The Craftsman ratcheting screwdriver set is $16.98, 29% off its usual price. This set comes with a ratcheting screwdriver handle, 24 bits, and a telescoping magnetic pick-up tool. This is a good set for a simple home maintenance kit—it doesn’t take up much space and it comes with almost any bit you would need for basic DIY home maintenance like changing air filters or swapping cabinet hardware.

Best deal on a wrench set

There's nothing more frustrating than getting partway through changing a filter or assembling a cabinet only to discover you don't have the right-sized socket for the job. The Craftsman 159-piece socket set comes with three ratchet handles, a set of wrenches in both SAE and metric sizes, and a variety of sockets up to 1/2-inch. It's on sale for $149, 12% off its regular price.

Best deal under $20

A pair of 10-inch Irwin locking pliers is $12.93, 52% off their typical price. These locking pliers are indispensable for removing stripped or rusted nuts and bolts, pulling nails, and a variety of other tasks. I have a pair that I keep in my personal tool set that have lasted more than a decade, and I find new uses for them every time I start a new project.

Best deals on bits, blades, and accessories

Having the correct bit or blade handy will save you time when you're working on a DIY project. Saving yourself a trip or two to the hardware store while you're working will keep your project flowing, but you might have noticed that the price of bits and blades can be steep. The Bosch 41-piece drill and driver bit set is on sale for $25, 50% off its usual price. This set includes basic sizes and types of drill bits for wood, metal, and masonry as well as some driver tips. This is a good basic starter kit for a drill and driver set as it has a little bit of everything included.

Best deal under $25

The DeWalt 40-piece impact driver bit set is on sale for $22.49, 25% off its typical price. The set includes a magnetic bit sleeve, a socket adapter, a set of extended bits for narrow spaces, several sizes and types of driver tips, and a case. This is the set I have in my personal tool kit, and I have found that DeWalt bits hold up to the torque that impact drivers apply without breaking, and they're convenient to swap with the included magnetic sleeve.

My Favorite Emergency Kit Battery Set Is Over 60% Off Right Now

By: Becca Lewis

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.

A battery starter set is a good way to build a home DIY cordless tool kit because batteries are often the most expensive part of your cordless tool arsenal. While you might be able to get tools that come with one battery, if you plan to use your tools a lot, having an extra battery or two will allow you to have a fresh battery on the charger all the time. Ryobi batteries are an affordable, reliable choice for lots of tools, including cordless drills, drivers, saws, and landscaping equipment. I have a set of Ryobi lawn tools, and I also use this battery set as a part of my emergency kit, with an inverter as an emergency backup power source to charge cell phones and other small electronics.

On its own, a Ryobi 4-amp-hour battery without a charger can cost $100, so getting a 4-amp-hour battery, a 2-amp-hour battery, and a charger for $79 is a big discount. The regular price for a 2-amp-hour battery and charger is $89, and you only get one battery with that set. Adding an extra, larger capacity battery and knocking $10 off the total price is a significant savings.

Having a pair of batteries makes using your tools so much easier—you can swap a dead battery out for a fresh one, always leaving one on the charger, so saving money on a pair of batteries makes a lot of practical sense.

Why I like this battery set

The 18-volt Ryobi battery set that I own is used to run a small Ryobi lawn mower as well as a string trimmer under normal circumstances, but I don’t use them every day for shop work—so these batteries were a good candidate to double as a part of my emergency kit. Since there’s almost always one battery fully charged, and usually two, using them with an inverter when the power goes out has been a life saver on more than one occasion.

I’ve used this set during winter storms, and once during a power outage caused by excessive heat. When I put together my wildfire kit, I keep my inverter and a fresh battery in the kit so I can use it for an extra power source on the go. I also once used these batteries with an inverter to run a small projector and speaker for a movie night, and it ran for over two hours without issue on the 4-amp-hour battery.

Why Ryobi batteries are a good choice

18-volt Ryobi batteries can be used to run over 300 different tools, so depending on what your needs are, chances are that Ryobi makes a tool for you that fits these batteries. You can use these batteries like I do, with lawncare equipment, but you can also use them with a wide variety of Ryobi tools from tire inflators to nail guns. Depending on how many tools you need to use simultaneously, a couple of batteries can go a long way, especially for home and DIY use. A Ryobi battery set can allow you to try out different tools as you build your DIY skills, and expand your tool needs.

Ryobi also has a good track record of making their batteries backwards-compatible to previous systems, so even if you have older Ryobi tools from the early 2000s, you can likely still use them with the current battery system. It’s also likely that newer tools that come out will be backwards-compatible with your current batteries as well.

My Favorite Milwaukee Drill and Driver Sets Are 50% Off at Home Depot Right Now

By: Becca Lewis

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.

If you're building out a power tool set, a cordless drill and driver should be the bedrock. Getting a good quality set means that you will have the batteries to add to your tool kit as you expand your skills, allowing you to grow your hobby while also saving money. You might have noticed that drill and driver kits can be expensive, though, so saving 50% on your tool upgrade with this deal at Home Depot on an 18-volt Milwaukee cordless drill or a Milwaukee 18-volt cordless impact driver is a big deal.

Both the Milwaukee 18-volt drill and 18-volt impact driver are on sale for $99, 50% off their regular price. The drill set comes with a Milwaukee 18-volt drill, an 18-volt, CP-2.0 battery, a charger, and a tool bag. The impact driver set comes with a Milwaukee 18-volt impact driver, an 18-volt, CP-2.0 battery, a charger, and a tool bag. Together, the dual chargers will allow you to charge both batteries simultaneously when your tools aren’t in use so you can cut your charging time in half.

Why I use these tools

Milwaukee has been making power tools since 1924 when they made their first powered portable drills for Ford. They have gained a reputation for being durable and powerful, and their line of portable cordless drills, first offered in the '90s, allowed them to expand their reach to include home and DIY shops. As the battery technology has improved, the tools have become even lighter, more portable, and more practical because of their longer run times.

My personal tool set for home projects and DIY is a Milwaukee set that I began building over 10 years ago. I still have some of the original batteries—and all but one are still going strong. I’ve used them for all kinds of projects over the years and have replaced a few batteries and tools as things wore out. I’ve found that the batteries will last about 10 years and that the tools themselves will last even longer—as long as you don’t drop them off of a 15-foot ladder onto concrete (which is why I had to replace my drill).

In addition to being durable, these tools are both well-balanced so they don’t cause as much strain on your wrist and forearm as some other models that are heavier to the front or back of the tool. This makes them easier to hold steady and use for longer periods of time without wearing out yourself out.

The automatic LED light that turns on when you pull the trigger on these tools saves you when you’re trying to drive a screw in an awkward, dark place and you realize that your work light won't fit. It seems like a small thing, but it can be so helpful in unexpected ways.

I find that having both of these tools cuts my work time down by allowing me to drill pilot holes for screws with the drill and drive the screws with the impact driver. Because you don’t need to stop to swap bits, you can also wield your tools single-handed, which is helpful if you’re working on a ladder.

Prime Day 2025 ends tonight, and Lifehacker is sharing the best sales based on product reviews, comparisons, and price-tracking tools before it's over.

I’m a professional carpenter, and I’ve been using DeWalt cordless tools almost since they came out in 1994, and I have to say: The current 20-volt battery system is light, well-balanced for comfort, and the batteries last for hours without needing to be charged. The 20-volt DeWalt cordless drill and driver set can become the cornerstone for your home DIY cordless set, and it’s 50% off until Prime Day ends tonight.

What’s included

The DeWalt 20-volt drill and impact driver set comes with a ½-inch chuck drill, a ¼-inch chuck impact driver, two 20-volt, 2-amp-hour batteries, a charger, and a tool bag. The drill accepts bits with up to a ½-inch diameter base, and the driver has a quick-release ¼-inch chuck for swapping out bits quickly. The batteries are cross-compatible with other 20-volt DeWalt tools, allowing you to switch tools of the same brand and voltage as you work.

Why you need these tools

A drill and driver are the cornerstone of a cordless tool set because they allow you to use fasteners on your projects, from building a shelf to installing gutter brackets. Beginning with a basic drill and driver set allows you to drill holes and drive fasteners for woodworking, hanging shelves, and making home repairs. You can also use a drill to mix paint with the right bit, or even clean your bathtub.

Why this tool is a good choice

Beginning your DIY kit with a brand that has a longstanding reputation for making durable cordless tools and batteries, like DeWalt, starts you off on a solid foundation that will help you grow your skills and your tool kit alongside each other. Since DeWalt batteries are cross-compatible with their whole line of 20-volt tools, you’ll be able to expand your kit as your interests and needs change without investing in a whole new battery set for each new tool.

Bits to go with your drill and driver set

While your drill and driver set comes with batteries and a charger, it doesn’t have all the bits you’ll need to make your DIY dreams come true. There are a few Prime Day deals on bits that will help you get started on your DIY adventure and get the most out of your cordless drill and driver set:

  • The 40-piece Bosch drill bit set is on sale for $24.99, 62% off its regular price. The set comes with drill bits ranging in size from 1/16-inch to ¼-inch, a variety of driver tips, a magnetic bit sleeve, and a case. The bits are compatible with a 14-inch chuck impact driver, or a ½-inch chuck drill, making them an ideal choice for your DeWalt drill and driver set. This bit set will give you a good start on the bits you will likely need for pre-drilling and driving fasteners.

  • The 100-piece DeWalt bit set is on sale for $36.99, 44% off its usual price. It includes a set of standard drill bits ranging in size from 1/16-inch to ⅜-inch, a wide variety of driver tips, a magnetic sleeve, a bit extension base, a hex adapter that fits a drill chuck for swapping out shorter bit tips, and four carrying cases. This set has a lot of versatility, allowing you to use both your drill and your driver simultaneously, so it’s a good expansion to your DIY tool set.

I Use This Solar-Charged Power Bank All the Time, and It’s Over 50% Off Until Prime Day Ends Tonight

By: Becca Lewis

Prime Day 2025 ends tonight, and Lifehacker is sharing the best sales based on product reviews, comparisons, and price-tracking tools before it's over.

I stash a solar charge power bank on my windowsill and forget about it until my power goes out, and then I can use it as both a flashlight and a phone charger. If you’ve ever been out and about and suddenly realized that your phone is at 3% and you’re far from an outlet, or you have suffered through a power outage without a way to charge your phone, a solar charge power bank is a good solution, and this one is 52% off until Prime Day ends tonight.

This is a single solar-powered 5-volt, 42800 mili-amp-hour battery bank that you can use to charge a phone or other device through its two USB/C charging ports. It also functions as an LED flashlight in case the power goes out, and it’s water-proof and chemical resistant for durability. This mini power bank can take a charge about 1,600 times before the battery wears out, and it has magnetic field resistance built in to protect it from damage so it’s a dependable choice for back-up charging, camping, or your emergency roadside kit. This device doesn’t come with cables, so you’ll need a device-compatible cable to use it for charging.

Why solar charging is a good choice

If you’re using a solar charged battery bank in case of a power outage, solar charging allows you to use devices even if there’s no electricity. If you use other types of backup power, like a gas or propane-fueled generator, a solar powered back-up can be a good addition to your kit because in an emergency, there’s the potential that gas and propane will be scarce. Diversifying the type of power generation you use can make your emergency kit more resilient. The added bonus of solar charging is that sunlight is free, and you can get it any time the sun is out.

Why this battery bank is a favorite

This battery bank is a favorite of mine because you can put it on a sunny windowsill and basically forget about it until you need it. It takes awhile to charge, but that’s okay if you leave it for an extended period. If you don’t have a full charge, and you think you might need it, it also has a wall-charging function, allowing you to plug it in and charge it up more quickly.

The light weight and durability of this power bank lets you toss it in your glove box or bag and keep it with you for outdoor activities or a roadside emergency kit. Because it’s drop-resistant and waterproof, it’s good to take to the beach as a just-in-case backup or in a go-bag for an emergency kit.

I’ve used the flashlight feature more than I expected to because in a power outage, I always know my solar power bank is on my windowsill. When I grab it in the dark, I use it to see my way while I get the rest of my back-up supplies together. You can also use the flashlight function to make yourself more visible in case you need to get out of your vehicle on the roadside. Because the light is an LED, it doesn’t run out the battery as quick as you might expect, although I wouldn’t try to use it for a flashlight and a charger at the same time for more than a few minutes.

Tonight Is Your Last Chance to Get This Heavy-Duty DeWalt Hammer Drill for 40% Off Before Prime Day Ends

By: Becca Lewis

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.

Prime Day 2025 ends tonight, and Lifehacker is sharing the best sales based on product reviews, comparisons, and price-tracking tools before it's over.

If you have heavy-duty DIY projects planned, like deck-building or mounting shelving to brick or concrete, you might want to add a hammer drill to your cordless tool kit. The DeWalt heavy-duty 20-volt 3-speed hammer drill is on sale for $159 until Prime Day ends tonight, 43% off its regular price. It can deliver more force than a regular drill by adding impact force in addition to its torque, making it better at drilling through thick beams, tougher materials like brick or concrete, and using larger gauge drill bits.

When you need a hammer drill

I live in a house that’s over 100 years old, and we have lath and plaster walls that are great for deadening sound and durability, but lousy for trying to hang anything up. A hammer drill ended up being the answer for that, as well as for attaching a metal railing to the concrete walkway at the base of our steps. You will struggle less to get through thicker and tougher material with a hammer drill, especially if you have a lot of holes to drill.

In addition to making you struggle less, the motor on a hammer drill is more powerful, so your drill motor will struggle less too. Since hammer drills are designed for tougher materials, they tend to be powered for more resistance, and can tackle more friction while drilling without burning out your motor.

How a hammer drill works

A hammer drill works by adding impact to the torque function of a regular drill, so it gives you more pressure on your bit. This added momentum gives a periodic boost to the pressure you’re applying to your drill, making it easier to get through tougher and thicker material, especially with a larger-diameter bit. The hammer function can be turned off for drilling into regular materials as well, so this drill can also be used for regular woodworking or DIY projects.

Why choose this tool

DeWalt has a long-standing reputation as a dependable brand for cordless tools, and their hammer drill has been recognized as a well-performing powerhouse. The higher powered hammer drill gets you 2,000 RPM, about 500 more than a regular drill, in addition to the hammer function—so the regular drill mode is also heavier-duty than its smaller counterpart. The variable speed function of the drill makes it simple to switch from hammer drilling to regular if you’re working with multiple material types, and the included handle helps you control it as you go.

Note that this is a tool-only deal, so you’ll need a DeWalt 20-volt battery set to use it.

Consider an impact wrench too

If you have deck-building to do, you can also consider using an impact wrench for driving your larger and longer fasteners. The DeWalt 20-volt ½-inch chuck impact wrench is also 43% off for Prime Day, and it has a much higher torque rating than a regular impact driver. This tool is good for driving larger fasteners, like bolts or heavy-duty screws, into thicker material, and can also be used for tightening nuts and bolts on metal, like the lug nuts on your tires.

You can use the speed settings to prevent over tightening as well as deliver up to 1030 foot-pounds of torque to your fasteners. This driver is a good companion tool to a hammer drill, and I can tell you from experience building a deck with one, that the extra power will make your day easier if you have a lot of longer fasteners to drive.
